Land Acknowledgement

Headquartered in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Barrington Consulting was founded in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. In Mi’kmaq, Kjipuktuk means ‘Great Harbour’ and we recognize our privilege as guests on this land at the water’s edge. We acknowledge that our work spans many Treaty areas and Territories across Turtle Island and offer gratitude to the Indigenous peoples and their ancestors. We are all treaty people who have a collective responsibility to understand the truth of our history and to be intentional in our actions moving forward, honouring our responsibilities to one another and to the land.

The Mi’kmaq have shared land with African Nova Scotians for over 400 years; the Peace and Friendship Treaties signed with the British Crown were signed decades before the end of slavery in Turtle Island. We recognize the harms that Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians, and other equity-deserving groups have endured and continue to experience as a result of colonialism, racism, and other structural and systemic injustices. We are committed to our own ongoing journey as an organization towards reconciliation and anti-racism.
